The main components of Thermal Transfer Printing Ribbons include the following:
Base film: usually made of polyester (PET) film. Polyester has good mechanical properties, such as high strength, high toughness and wear resistance, can withstand tension and friction during printing, and has good thermal stability. It is not easy to deform when printing at high temperatures, ensuring that the ribbon runs stably during printing.
Ink layer: This is the key part of the thermal transfer ribbon, generally composed of pigments or dyes, resins, waxes and other components. Pigments or dyes provide color, they have good tinting power and color stability, and can present bright and clear images and text on different substrates. Resins act as a binder, firmly attaching pigments or dyes to the base film, and transferring them to the surface of the substrate during printing, while giving the ink layer a certain degree of wear resistance and chemical resistance. Wax can lower the melting point of the ink, so that it can melt and transfer at a lower temperature, and at the same time improve the fluidity and transferability of the ink, making the printing effect clearer and more uniform.
Back coating: Located on the back of the base film, the main components are some lubricants and antistatic agents. Lubricants can reduce the friction between the ribbon and the printer components, reduce the wear of the print head, and make the ribbon run more smoothly during the printing process. Antistatic agents can prevent the ribbon from generating static electricity during operation, avoiding problems such as dust absorption or reduced print quality due to static electricity.
